In honor of the finale of Mythbusters, we’re going to take a quick look some of the top mini-tech myths out there, and their truthiness.
Does Incognito Browsing make you anonymous? Will you destroy you battery by leaving it on the charger all night? Can cell phones give you cancer!!!???

1) Private or Incognito browsing makes you anonymous online
Very often people think that when they are using incognito mode on Google chrome, or a similar mode in other browsers that they are virtually undetectable.
How sneaky!
If only that were true, however all these modes offer is a way for other people who use your computer to not know what you’ve been up to (can you say “super secret Santa?”). This mode actually just disables the history function of your browser, any extensions you may have, and any auto log-ins you may have saved. It does not hide any of your information from websites you visit. They still see you, and your IP address too.

2) Leaving your phone plugged in overnight destroys the battery
People used to say this all the time: “If you leave your phone plugged in long after it is completely charged, you will ruin your battery life.”
Well, actually there’s no evidence to support this. Smartphones run on Lithium-ion batteries, which are smart enough to know when they’ve filled up on juice and stop charging.

3) Using cell phones gives you cancer
This might be a bit out there for some of you, but there are many people who believe this myth. The truth is there is no evidence to support this theory whatsoever. In fact the National Cancer Institute has said “Although there have been some concerns that radiofrequency energy from cell phones held closely to the head may affect the brain and other tissues, to date there is no evidence from studies of cells, animals, or humans that radiofrequency energy can cause cancer.”
